Commonly Asked Questions

Q. Do I need any special software installed on my computer to listen online?
A. cfrw.ca streams audio for Adobe Flash Player in a new browser window. To listen online you will need to have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player installed or depending on your operating system, a media player that supports Adobe Flash files.

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/.
Q. I can usually listen online without an issue but today I am having a problem connecting to the stream. What should I do? Should I make an adjustment on my computer?
A. If you can usually listen to 1290 CFRW online and today you are experiencing an issue there may be a problem with the actual stream. Try reopening the Listen Online player again and if the problem persists please let us know by emailing here.
Q. I usually listen online using Firefox but I am no longer able to connect to the streaming. What I can do to listen again?
A. Firefox may have installed an update which may have affected the Adobe Flash Player plugin installation. To resolve we recommend visiting http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ and downloading and installing the most current version of Firefox and then reinstalling the latest Adobe Flash Player Firefox plugin from http://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:7.
Q. I click on the “Listen Live” link but nothing happens… where is the online player?
A. If you click on the link to open the online player and nothing happens it may be the result of a pop-up blocker installed on your computer. As our online streaming opens in a new window, make sure any pop-blockers are configured to accept our streaming window.
Q. I am able to connect to the online stream but it continually stops and starts with a message in the player window that says “Buffering”. Why is this happening?
A. This generally occurs when the player isn’t receiving the stream fast enough to reproduce the audio correctly on your computer. This may be related to your Internet connection speed or congestion on the Internet or network somewhere between the publishing point and your computer. If you can usually listen without a problem then the issue is most likely an Internet slowdown and in almost all cases will clear itself over a relatively short period of time. If this is an ongoing problem when you listen online, you may want to contact your Internet service provider.
Q. The online streaming player window opens but I never get a connection, or the message in the player simply says "Connection In Progress". Why?
A. This may be a result of the stream being blocked by a firewall either on your computer or on your network. Please ensure you configure any firewall to allow our stream and try connecting again. If you have a Shaw High Speed connection and Shaw Secure installed Right-click on the Shaw Secure icon by your clock on the bottom right of your screen and select "Unload" and then "Unload and allow all network traffic". You may reload the software after the stream starts. If you are trying to connect on your work computer talk to your network adminstrator.
Q. I have tried the solutions above but I continue to experience issues when attempting to listen, what can I do?
A. Some issues with streaming internet content can be resolved by updating to or re-installing the most current version of Adobe Flash Player.
If you continue to experience problems listening to us online please email us here.
